Watson Lake, Yukon to Whitehorse, Yukon

Left early this morning and headed northwest toward Whitehorse. The weather started out brisk but clear, and as you can see, the scenery was beautiful:

We continued on to the settlement of Swift River, and you can see what the scenery looked like:

I arrived in Whitehorse around 2:30 or so and I was very pleasantly surprised.  Dawson Creek, Ft. Nelson, and Watson Lake had all been pretty "rough" places, but Whitehorse looks like a college town in comparison.  Very nice downtown with lots of commercial activity:

Whitehorse is along the Yukon River and was in the area where the 1898 Gold Rush took place.  River trade up and down the river up until the 1950's was by flat-bottom stern-wheeled river boat, and the SS Klondike, which is on display next to the river, was the last of those boats.

The ship is open to the public and it is very well done and very interesting.

Anyway, off to Dawson City, Yukon tomorrow and then into Alaska on Friday.  Miles today:  236.  Total:  4,314.
