Kalispell, MT to Invermere, BC.

Left Kalispell around 7:45 and rode north on US93 to Roosville, MT where you cross the border into Canada.  The whole area around Kalispell and up US93 is a valley with the Rockies to the east and the view just kept getting better.

O! Canada!  eh?  Sorry...trying to blend in.  Anyway, here is a view from BC93 about 2 miles north of the border crossing:

As you can see, those are mountains in the distance.  I continued on up BC93 about 60 miles to Cranbrook, which is a nice little town of about 19,000 people nestled in a valley with mountains all around.  After getting greenbacks turned into monopoly money, I headed up BC93 to Ft. Steele, which is a local settlement, now abandoned, that has been preserved complete with character actors.  Actually, not chintzy at all, really quite interesting.

Anyway, the town was interesting and the people were very nice and helpful.

Left Ft. Steele around 2:00 and rode on up to Invermere for the night.  This whole area is a year-round vacation resort with ski slopes, vacation homes, and hot springs everywhere.  In fact, about 10 miles north of here is the town of "Radium Hot Springs" if you can believe that.

Headed out tomorrow through Lake Louise (Banff National Park) and Jasper (Jasper National Park) and will be in Hinton, AB tomorrow nite.  From there, it's up the "Bighorn Highway" to Grande Prairie and on to Dawson Creek, BC.  I'll be spending two nights in Dawson Creek to take a breather, and that is where the Alaska Highway actually starts (about 675 miles north of Roosville, the border crossing).  From Dawson Creek, it's only 1,600 miles to Fairbanks.  Miles today:  256.  Total:  2,809.
